Kaimātai Hinengaro – Psychologist | Practicing Partner of Tūmanako Mai
Kia ora, my name is Karissa Vosper.
I am a Registered Psychologist dedicated to providing a safe and supportive space for individuals in the Matamata-Piako area. My approach is grounded in the belief that therapy should be a collaborative partnership—one where you feel truly heard, respected, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life. I work with a wide range of concerns, from anxiety and low mood to complex life transitions. I believe in looking at the "whole person," helping you understand the patterns that might be keeping you stuck while equipping you with practical tools to move forward.

I specialise in supporting behavioural change and use a range of therapeutic approaches tailored to each client’s needs. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to build emotional flexibility and help clients pursue meaningful goals; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to support thought restructuring and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns; and Mindful Compassion-Focused Therapy to cultivate present-moment awareness and develop self-compassion.
My Therapeutic Approach
I don’t believe in a "one-size-fits-all" model of care. My style is integrative, meaning I draw from a variety of proven psychological frameworks to tailor our sessions to your unique personality and goals. Whether we are working through a specific crisis or exploring long-standing emotional hurdles, my goal is to provide a respectful, client-centred environment where you can feel at ease.
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing): I am an EMDR-trained therapist. This specialised approach is particularly effective for processing trauma, distressing life events, or "stuck" emotional patterns that may not have shifted through traditional talk therapy alone.
- Focus on Insight and Action: My approach balances "insight"—understanding the roots of your experiences—with "action"—developing the skills you need to manage daily challenges. We work at your pace, ensuring that you feel supported and in control of the process.
- A Professional Partnership: As a Psychologist, I bring clinical expertise and a structured diagnostic understanding to our sessions. However, you are the expert on your own life. Together, we bridge that gap to find a path toward improved well-being and personal growth.
Ngā Mihi / Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.
